WTB 4th gen black 16GB iPod Nano

My first generation iPod Nano is failing.

It’s been my #1 gadget ever since that fateful first sync in early 2006. I could forget my phone some days or go without a game console for a year but I can’t imagine losing the Nano — 42.5 grams of perfection in a classic white case. Unfortunately there’s no reasonable way to increase the puny 4GB flash memory, so I guess I’m looking for a new one.

The 2nd gen in black looks okay, and goes up to 8GB, but 8GB is hardly a future-proof investment. The feel is completely inferior. And it isn’t white.

3rd gen was a joke.

The fourth gen Nano is downright ugly, the freakishly big screen a result of form blindly following function. The accelerometer, video, Cover Flow, and new menu are things I’d rather do without. iTune’s “Genius” is the mother of all misnomers. But I could do 16 gigs.

5th gen is another terrible accident. Video camera? Pedometer? They could’ve just doubled the battery life with all that space.

I love the idea of a Classic but I don’t think my pants could take another chunk of metal. A smartphone and my keys are enough trouble. I suppose my only rational option is a fourth generation 16GB black Nano. So much for choice, huh.
