n’importe quoi…
i’m also tired of facebook and twitter, but mainly facebook. i can’t stand it anymore, seeing people’s updates on life every second, that they put there just so certain people will see it…and wonder about, and those subliminal things people do, why not just be up front? i’m just tired of that. trust me, im tired of being tired…i just want to be me and be free. i feel like it’s hard for me to explain how i’m feeling lately to anyone, without some kind of misunderstanding or some kind of relapse. only in my head does it make sense. do you ever feel the need to submerge yourself in something else? something deeper or different?
All of these tools that connect us every moment of every day reward superficiality; they make us (to borrow a phrase from DFW) the lords of our own skull-shaped kingdoms, alone at the center of creation. They make dialogue and interaction tools of self-expression, which forces us to instrumentalize our “friends” and “followers” likewise. This leaves us alienated and causes us to feel great pain, and leads us to be suspicious of real, genuine friendship.
We respond to this alienation and pain and suspicion by embracing more tools to connect us even more closely and superficially every moment of every day; when we see how lonely Facebook makes us, we run to Twitter. We are addicts, numbing our pain one status update at time.
Our generation is crying out in agony.
Reblog this if you agree.
Agree wholeheartedly (+1 for DFW). Our generation are self-taught experts at PR, and not in a good way. I’ve caught myself making calculated/manipulative decisions about what to post, who to follow. WHAT A BITCH
