singascene #01: Finders, Keepers
August 9th, 2011. While everyone else is enjoying their super long weekend from calling in sick yesterday, I’m still happily jobless, and I find myself putting together a little mixtape. Armed with considerable online stalking skills and a propensity to download everything I come across, I’ve collected a small stash of forgotten music from my favourite bands — early demos, ripped off abandoned MySpace’s, tracks shared on blogs long deserted, recordings taken from that friend who knows that guy in that band. Some of these might’ve seen limited release physically or online, but those that haven’t… well, I found them anyway. I’ve kept it to the more recognisable names of the past few years, but even loyal fans should be able to find something new.
So it is with some pride — the patriotic kind, mind, lest I be labeled as some kind of indie snob, which I might be, but that is not within the scope of this post — that I present to you singascene #01. I’ve already put in the hard work as a slightly deranged fan and musical pack rat; you need only move your mouse a little over this way to share in the spoils.

Dear friend,
I believe in letting go. The things in life that you may hold dear to your heart can never truly belong to you alone. The journey of living is but an essential wanderlust towards discovery and fulfilment — of dreams.
Hence, I am letting go and sharing my dreams with you. I would like to invite you into my world — and maybe myself into yours.
The compilation of songs from my debut EP are available free for you here. I hope you will take them with you on your journey. Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,Seyra
Seyra’s excellent self-titled EP is now free to download. If you can spare the SGD$8 I highly suggest grabbing a physical copy though!

Remember Seyra? Finally my chance to catch her live, together with:
Mux — must I say it again? 1/2 of B-Quartet, live art, everything you ever wanted
Cotton Island — I know Fiona loves them, no it’s not a retail store
Great empty — post-rockers I’ve failed to mention! The EP is a free download. Intense vocals/samples/spoken word, I love that they’re doing something different.Migrant Sounds is a social initiative primarily concerned with raising awareness for the non-profit organization Migrant Voices, an independent entity committed to recognizing and celebrating the artistic talents of migrant workers in Singapore. Admission is open to the public and is free of charge!

Seyra - You make me go

Seyra makes these wonderful indie pop ditties that make you go whoa-a-o-o-oh. I don’t know if she plays all the instruments, but some real strings and brass would make this perfect. Now if only I’d discovered this before her Esplanade gig last month.
