Two weeks ago SoundClouders across the globe came together in their cities to connect over their love of sound! You collectively organized over 160 meetups and there were thousands of attendees who got first access to Next SoundCloud for attending the meetup. What does this mean? It is simple: Our community rocks!
Check out the recap post on the blog that highlights community stories across the globe!
i love walking into these Singapore bookstores and just soaking in the vibes. In fact the indie stores are quirky, quiet, artsy and well designed.
# 3 The Pigeonhole
one of the newer faces and has a really interesting personality. Ironically it can’t be pigeonholed into anything specific. It’s sometimes a cafe, sometimes a bar-open mic space, sometimes a bookstore. Nice chill-out vibe about it.
I love this place but I spend way too much on cider here
I’ll be playing with songwaters at the Pigeonhole Open Mic this Tuesday (13th Sep). Here’s a little preview of a track we’re working on where I get to make spaceship noises with my guitar.
Please come watch us and some other cool cats like Charles J Tan and host Nick Chim, and try the Pigeonhole’s great beers and ciders.
basically, in the next few months to come, i will be presenting several solo performances around town, primarily to share my developments in alternative music systems and narratives.
a little background: presently i am conducting a study on alternative music systems, particularly one which reflects and expresses globalized Asia, if not just Singapore. in this study, my interest is in reinterpreting the already present ideas of music and reconstructing them to what i would deem a vocabulary which best represents the social / psychological climate here. my philosophy is that music, ultimately, is a subjective listening experience, comprising of sounds or no-sounds, organized or otherwise, encapsulated in a time frame, relevant to the individual listener. that by subjecting music to categorization is nothing more than a mere attempt at communicating the music made, but that in itself, has no definite value to the actual composition, only an idea.
With no doubt, Bani Haykal is the only local artist that truly inspired me to pursue in writing and art. I fell in love with him the first time I watched him play in B-Quartet at the Esplanade four years ago and have loved him to date. I’m pretty happy that he’ll be curating this weekend’s Night Festival as well as performing together with Mux. I’ve yet to thank him for being a great influence to me but.
